When I am jittery about going into the unknown, I remind myself that I am not the first person to have done this or that thing I'm nervous about. I think about things I've done before that were hard or scary, but which brought me eventual success or meaningful changes.
That is such a great addition! It's true; when I think back on all the times I did something scary and reflect on what it brought me, it gives me quite a confidence boost. Thank you for sharing!
Hi L ;), finally got the time to check your website! You already inspired me in our conversations but it's so nice to read even more in your blogs. Your tips to 'just do it' are of great use for me at this moment. Will tell you all about it when we have a coffee this month.
I love that you find your way here and I'm really excited to hear more about what's going on with you! Let's get a coffee next week before I leave on my next adventure :)
I love your list of what-ifs and then, a list with what is. ❤️ I do something similar I write a list of my fears or from the voice of fear then I write a list of love or from the voice of love. It brings me clarity and compassion for the whole spectrum of my experience. I’m going to try your list next time!
Also, I took the leap and started offering free yoga classes online the first Friday of every month at 12pm pacific time. It’s something I’ve been considering doing for far too long. It’s giving me all the butterflies of being a beginner at something again.
Yes! Join anytime ❤️ I am sending posts a day before each month as a reminder so if you subscribe you’ll get it, hopefully 🙏 Not all of my posts are being emailed 🤷♀️
Lieke, you're a great writer. Discovered you by seeing you on my newsfeed and then your newsletter sounded like a great read. And it is! Nice to meet you. My wife recently got into yoga and I can imagine how difficult it is. My version of yoga is jiu jitsu with some locals here in Mexico City. I agree, doing hard things can help you get comfortable with being uncomfortable, which can lead to more risk taking.
Thank you!! I just read your piece about your bicultural marriage and it sounds like you have a lot of experience with doing hard things.
I practice yoga mainly because it reminds me of the impermanence of all things, especially our own physicality. Can imagine jiujitsu can give similar insights, even though I’ve never practiced it.
Yeah Lieke I find at 31 years old that injuries linger for much longer than they would’ve at 18 for instance. I don’t want to say I’m old or anything but I’m starting to notice some changes! :) Haha. Thanks for reading my article about my wife.
Really enjoyed reading this and resonated with so much! I'm currently pregnant and as someone who has a strong inner critique and desire to do things perfectly it's been a steep learning and challenge to really welcome all of the emotions, fear and discomfort creeping in!
Oh, I’m so glad it resonated! From what I’ve gathered talking to my pregnant friends, it is such a turbulent time with your body changing, your hormones changing and all the unsolicited advice coming your way. I can only imagine that makes it extra hard and extra needed to practice self-compassion. Sending you lots of softness during these cold and dark days ❤️
Lieke, I loved reading this. I'd love to know what your business is and If I can help at all. I'm in the early stages as well of starting something new and it can feel so scary and lonely.
Thanks, Carly! I'm about to finish my embodiment coaching certification, and aside from coaching people in personal transitions 1on1, I'm thinking about how I can weave it together with my work on bigger societal transitions. What are you working on?
Oh wow, I had to look up embodiment coaching. I find tapping into other senses really helpful in transitions. I just finished a process art workshop and there was a lot of movement and getting into our bodies before we went to paint. I was suprised how much it helped me release.
As for me, I'm working on a program to help mid-career professionals transition into new and more meaningful work.

Yess, celebrating you big time for trying something new that excites you!! Are the classes freely accessible? I’d love to join one day 😊

Have you heard of the Bridges transition model?
A beautiful piece ❤️
